Welcome to The Heights
The Houston Heights or “The Heights” was developed starting in 1891 by the Omaha and South Texas Land Company and is located four miles from Downtown. At the time, it was considered a “streetcar suburb” of Houston. The homes in the neighborhood ranged from grand Victorian mansions to small bungalows. Since the 1990s, the Heights has experienced a revitalization. In the last 10 years, the revitalization has moved at hyper speed, making The Heights one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in the inner city of Houston. Home values have appreciated considerably.
Today, The Heights has several historic districts where original homes from the early 1900s sit next to large, more recent construction homes developed before the historic districts were established.
There are many eateries, coffee shops, trendy bars, and nightlife in the area. The neighborhood has many parks and public amenities maintained by the city including Heights Boulevard, Love, and Milroy Parks. In recent years, the abandoned railroad easements were converted into hike and bike trails linking the Heights to many other inner-city neighborhoods and parks.
